As part of a strategic realignment, the Swiss company Oerlikon is bundling its 3D printing production in the USA. This is justified by the greater growth potential of the American market in the field of additive manufacturing and a higher acceptance of disruptive technologies.
In addition, the challenging market environment for 3D printing in Germany would have significantly limited growth opportunities. In future, all international customers of AM-manufactured components will be supplied directly from the USA, the company announced in a press release. The existing production sites in Barleben (D) and Shanghai (CN) will be completely relocated by 2024, while the traditional site in Garching (D) will be continued with a focus on new materials, coating technologies and digitalization.
