As face-to-face events are still not taking place due to the coronavirus, the DGO is organizing this year's Ulm Talk as a series of webinars.

In the week from May 3 to 6, 2021, webinars will take place daily from 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. (or 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 3) on special topics related to the key theme "Functional element surface".

There are daily calls to reduce climate-damaging greenhouse gases by restricting flying, driving, heating or eating animal-based food. This is also less well known for digital consumption, which accounts for 4 percent of global greenhouse gases and therefore more than civil aviation. Even if the industrialized countries make a significant contribution to this as part of their responsibility, it will not be possible to save the climate through savings alone. We can only win the race through technical innovations and truly disruptive developments.

The cross-sectional technology of surface technology is of crucial importance here. After all, it is the functional surface that makes all processes for energy generation and energy conversion in all products and areas of life efficient.

The 42nd Ulm Talk - Forum for Surface Technology will address and discuss the topic of the "functional element surface" in all its breadth. In this context, mixed construction/lightweight construction, energy generation, storage and conversion, new functional layers for e-mobility as well as simulation and process capability with increased efficiency will be dealt with.
