The electroplating industry has reason to celebrate: at the end of the 2021 school year, Gewerbliche Schule Schwäbisch Gmünd was able to present 15 successful graduates of the technical school for electroplating technology, including two female graduates, with their diplomas and certificates as state-certified technicians. This year's class once again achieved excellent results with five prizes and two commendations, and Maximilian Wiedemann was even awarded the dream grade of 1.0.
In addition to basic subjects such as chemistry, physics, electroplating and environmental technology, the two-year technician training course also includes a special focus on PCB technology, from CAD layout to the finished circuit. In Schwäbisch Gmünd, cooperation with the industry and the close integration of theory and practice are of great importance.
In their technical work, which is part of the final examination and is usually carried out as a team on practical tasks in companies in our industry, the graduates were able to demonstrate what they had learned. This year's requirements again touched on a number of current topics: Base materials from the 3D printer were characterized and coated (Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, Schwäbisch Gmünd), a successful root cause analysis of defects in hard chrome-plated printing cylinders (Huhtamaki Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Ronsberg) led to significant cost savings. This was achieved with a simultaneous improvement in quality through the optimized use of additives in the passivation of zinc coatings (Verzinkerei Kriessern AG, Oberriet, CH). This technical thesis was presented by graduates Raphael Hutter and Joshua Pfau at the certificate ceremony.
For those interested in the technical schools in Schwäbisch Gmünd, it is important to note that admission to the two-year full-time schools is currently on an annual basis. The courses start in September. Further information can be found on the Internet.
