Omron Electronic Components Europe is expanding its portfolio of encapsulated basic switches and is promoting the D2EW version as the smallest comparable solution in the industry. It offers multi-angle operation in an IP67-compliant sliding contact housing. Without a lever, the extremely small and sealed switch D2EW (8.3 x 7.0 x 5.3 mm) reduces costs and makes the application more flexible. Compared to existing switches, the innovative shape of the plunger supports operation at a wide angle between the vertical and horizontal, reducing the effect of backlash in the cam position and improving the tolerance of the operating position.
The design of the D2EW includes a left-right asymmetrical post shape. This reduces the risk of incorrect assembly and the need for rework and quality control. The sliding contact structure ensures quiet operation. Another advantage is the reduction of the minimum load to 50 µA, which facilitates the development of energy-saving applications. The durability can reach up to 300,000 switching cycles, which benefits applications with a longer service life. The new switch is available as normally open and normally closed and offers a choice of solder or press-fit terminals.
Applications include self-driving vehicles and robots, vending machines, smart meters, fast charging stations for electric vehicles, factory automation, security systems, refrigeration and air conditioning. This range of applications is extended by the IP67 protection rating for use in wet and dusty environments.
The switches can be used to detect water levels in washing machines and alarm buttons, as well as to eliminate problems with dust or powder locks, card readers and mobile printers. D2EW is specified for relative humidity up to 95% and operating temperatures from -40 to +85 °C.
