Silicon carbide reduces the losses of the power semiconductors in servo drives by up to 80 %. This can make them maintenance-free, as fans are no longer required. It also enables the integration of motor and drive, resulting in simpler cabling. The evaluation board supports designs with the CoolSiC MOSFET 1200 V in discrete packages (IMW120R045M1) and the isolated gate driver EiceDRIVER 1200 V (1EDI20H12AH). The power semiconductor of the board has a reverse voltage of 1200 V with a typical forward resistance of 45 mΩ. It can be used for all CoolSiCMOSFETs in TO247 packages with three or four pins.
The evaluation board integrates an EMI filter for 3-phase rectifiers, current sensors and protection functions as well as thermal management and heat sinks. All analog and control signals are easily accessible via test pads. The signals are isolated from the power section for precise measurements. The board is equipped with a 32-pin M5 interface connector. It fits the XMC DriveCard 4400 controller card (KIT_XMC4400_DC_V1). EVAL-M5-IMZ120R-SIC can be ordered immediately.
