The millions of ferrules produced by Vogt AG in Switzerland and the associated connection technology are now UL-certified and may bear the UL safety test mark. Vogt's range of UL ferrules extends from cable cross-sections of 0.5 to 50 mm2 (AWG 20-1/0) and offers different ferrule lengths with the appropriate certified crimping tools. Testing was carried out in accordance with UL 486F and CSA C22.2 No. 291-14. The classic wire end ferrule is used where finely stranded conductor ends need to be inserted into a connection or terminal compartment without splicing. It consists of a tinned copper sleeve and a polypropylene insulation collar. After being pushed onto the stripped conductor end, it is crimped with a tool. Wire end sleeves are necessary in terminal or connection areas because only tinned wire ends can splice open when inserted. In addition, tin begins to flow under pressure. For example, a terminal screw connection could come loose and cause faults.
