High-tech plaster for temperature measurement

High-tech plaster for temperature measurement

The 'intelligent' SteadyTemp plaster was developed in collaboration between the Styrian start-up SteadySense and AT&S. The PCB manufacturer, headquartered in Leoben (Austria), is responsible for the flexible sensor electronics at the core of the plaster.

Attached to the patient's upper body, the patch records the body temperature for up to a week. It replaces regular temperature taking by nursing staff in clinics and nursing homes, thus relieving them of routine tasks. Doctors can track the patient's temperature progress seamlessly, enabling a more accurate diagnosis than before. The measurement results can be forwarded as a PDF file or archived using a smartphone app. Verification of the effectiveness of initiated treatments - such as fever-reducing treatments - can also be supported with little effort. The greatest relief can be expected during the cold season when there is an increased incidence of flu and colds. Vulnerable people can use the patch at home to identify potential problems at an early stage.

The Medical University of Graz provided scientific support during the clinical approval process for SteadyTemp. The patch is available in pharmacies and online shops. The product has already been approved for clinical use in Europe. FDA approval for the US market is imminent.
