KATEK: Expansion of development for PV power electronics

The KATEK Group, one of Europe's leading electronics service providers, is expanding its development for photovoltaic power electronics: The new department in Memmingen is intended to strengthen its expertise in hybrid inverters. "Last year, the KATEK Group took over the inverter manufacturer Steca, one of the pioneers of renewable energies in Germany, which has a great deal of manufacturing and engineering expertise," explains Rainer Koppitz, CEO of the KATEK SE Group. "Now, with the establishment of the new product and development department, we are taking a further step towards future technology for residential buildings. This expansion of our portfolio also helps us to continue serving our customers optimally as an OEM and ODM partner."

Klauspeter Bader, Managing Director of KATEK Memmingen: "Hybrid inverters have a future and we not only want to produce them, but also continue to be one of the technology leaders in power electronics with our developments." With regard to the environment, he noted that the storage market is growing strongly and more and more homeowners are opting for a self-sufficient energy supply. "The trend is towards high-voltage energy storage systems that deliver more power." The company has been able to recruit experienced inverter experts for the new development area.

New products will soon be launched under the Steca brand. The new generation of hybrid inverters disconnects a household from the grid within a very short time in the event of a power failure and switches to stand-alone grid operation. This system solution ensures that the electricity storage system supplies all three phases in the household grid and therefore all consumers can continue to operate without any problems. The inverter technology is supplemented with smart system components for real-time measurement of energy consumption and a modern energy management module.

With around 2,400 employees at locations in Germany and Eastern Europe, the KATEK Group generates a turnover of around €350 million.
