New Managing Director of the Information Technology Society in the VDE

Dr. Damian Dudek has headed the VDE Information Technology Society (VDE ITG) since September 1. The 47-year-old replaces Dr. Volker Schanz after 33 years as Managing Director.

Dudek was most recently Group Leader at the Chair of Electronic Components at RWTH Aachen University and, in his role, also Managing Director of the joint project 'NeuroSys - Neuromorphic Hardware for Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Systems'. With a doctorate in electrical engineering, he can look back on a career at various research institutions, including positions at the German Research Foundation and the Research Center for Materials Science in Seville.

The new head of the ITG would like to devote particular attention to the promotion of young talent, AI in information processing and neuromorphic computing. One of Dudek's main concerns is the recruitment of young talent. A VDE position paper initiated by him shows how the crisis on the labor market can be used as a door opener to attract young talent. Dudek also wants to use his many contacts to get more young people interested in electrical engineering and information technology.

He sees great potential in women, which is why he co-founded a group in which female professors and experts network. His aim is to get more women on ITG committees. Women should become more visible in electrical engineering and information technology. According to Dudek, electrical engineering is still at the bottom of the list of engineering disciplines when it comes to young female talent.
