Evelyn Hering still has a keen interest in what is happening at Metoba - so she enjoyed the lunch with the staff on the occasion of her 80th birthday. As a special gift for the senior boss, the employees had portraits of Evelyn and her husband Klaus Hering captured as a laser image in a glass cube.
Together, the two have shaped the development of the company for more than 40 years. Evelyn Hering is proud that her sons are the third generation to carry on what their parents and grandparents started and to continuously expand Metoba as a medium-sized family business. The site on Königsberger Straße has continued to grow in recent years. Metoba now employs 120 people and is still looking for reinforcements for the next innovative step. Following the completion of the new warehouse with electrical workshop and conference area in 2017, there are plans to convert the existing warehouse into a production hall. Two additional self-designed systems for finishing endless belts are to be built there - another bold investment worth millions. Thorsten and Dr. Sven Hering emphasize that none of this would be possible without the foundations laid by their parents.
Shortly after the company was founded in 1955, at that time still on Kölner Strasse, Klaus Hering joined his father Heinrich's company. Metoba Metalloberflächenbearbeitung GmbH quickly outgrew its infancy, in which the family's silver cutlery still had to serve as anodes for electroplating, as the company chronicle states. The company moved to Königsberger Straße as early as 1958. While Klaus Hering was responsible for production, his wife Evelyn Hering, a qualified tax clerk, took over responsibility for finance, personnel and purchasing. Together they expanded the site step by step and made Metoba a pioneer in the galvanic metal surface finishing industry with an unusually diverse finishing program. State-of-the-art standards in production and environmental protection led to numerous awards in various fields. The Hering family was also a pioneer in the promotion of women in technical professions: in 1989, Metoba received the "Women-friendly company of the year" award, presented for the first time by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Evelyn Hering had little time for hobbies apart from her company and family. For many years, she volunteered on the board of the electroplating quality association and as an honorary judge at the state social court.
In 2002, Evelyn and Klaus Hering retired together and handed over the management of the company to the next generation, but they are still associated with Metoba to this day.
