For 20 years, the toolmaking industry has been meeting every fall in Aachen for the international colloquium "Toolmaking with a Future" to discuss current specialist topics, exchange ideas and receive suggestions on how to ensure the long-term competitiveness of companies. The organizers, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT and the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at RWTH Aachen University, have decided not to hold the colloquium this year. However, in times of economic challenges and additional burdens due to the corona crisis, an exchange of ideas is particularly important. The WZL and Fraunhofer IPT are therefore organizing the half-day "Digital Toolmaking Day" on 19 November 2020. Participation is free of charge.
The "Digital Toolmaking Day" offers participants free and digitally informative specialist presentations, a panel discussion and opportunities for direct exchange with scientists and other industry representatives. The aim of the half-day event is to provide impetus and present concrete solutions that are particularly helpful in times of crisis.
Professor Thomas Bergs and Professor Günther Schuh, members of the Board of Directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT and Chair of the Machine Tool Laboratory WZL at RWTH Aachen University, will present approaches and technologies that toolmaking companies can use to arm themselves more robustly against crises. In addition, representatives of well-known toolmaking companies will report on their operational and strategic initiatives for crisis management over the past few months and how they are positioning themselves for the future. In a panel discussion, innovative toolmaking spin-offs will present their success factors and discuss how toolmaking companies can set themselves apart from their competitors in the future.
"Excellence in Production 2020" award ceremony in the livestream
For 17 years, WZL and Fraunhofer IPT have been presenting the best tool and mold making companies in German-speaking countries on the eve of the International Colloquium "Toolmaking with a Future". This year, however, the award ceremony of the "Excellence in Production" competition will take place in a different form: Instead of the traditional grand ceremony in the Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall, the awards for the best tool and die companies will be presented in a small circle this year; the ceremony will be broadcast digitally. Participants will receive the link to the free livestream of the award ceremony together with their registration confirmation for the "Digital Toolmaking Day".
Please register by November 16, 2020.
