The physicist Maximilian Haider, Honorary Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), will receive this year's Kavli Prize for Nanoscience together with Harald Rose, Senior Professor at the University of Ulm, Knut Urban from the Jülich Research Center and Ondrej Krivanek, President of the Nion Company, USA. This was announced by the Kavli Foundation in Oslo. The prize recognizes the work of the four scientists on the development of electron microscopy, which today makes it possible to image and examine layers with atomic resolution, among other things.
Rose developed a theoretical concept for improving electron-optical lenses and Haider finally succeeded in the technical implementation. The result is a greatly improved image resolution.
