The German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology (DGO) will once again be awarding the Nasser Kanani Prize at the 46th Ulm Talks on May 14/15, 2025. The prize recognizes outstanding theoretical and practical work by young researchers (up to the age of 35) in the field of electrochemical surface technology that takes into account aspects of sustainability and serves the advancement of electroplating technology.

Nominations can be submitted to the DGO until January 31, 2025. For joint projects, the individual contribution of the nominee must be emphasized. The award includes a certificate, the highest prize money in the industry at 3,000 euros and payment of the participation fees for the Ulm Talk, where the award winner presents their work.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Nasser Kanani, founder of the prize, is known for his significant contributions to electroplating technology - including numerous publications and textbooks published by Leuze-Verlag, among others. His professional career includes positions at TU Berlin, MIT and as Head of Materials Science at Atotech Deutschland GmbH.

In 2024, the prize donor presented the award in person in the town hall next to Ulm Minster. The prize went in equal parts to the scientists Frank Simchen, TU Chemnitz, for his research on coatings for the corrosion protection of magnesium and to Dr. René Böttcher from Airbus Defense & Space for his scientific findings on the electrochemical deposition of aluminum from ionic liquids.
