New study: Children and young people in the STEM sector

In many places, skilled workers are desperately sought after, especially for jobs in the so-called STEM fields. A study by the University of Würzburg, made possible by the Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation, has now clearly demonstrated the positive effects of2020 05 WiK Bild1 positive effects of children and young people participating in the robot competitions of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO).
The evaluation study was divided into two sub-studies: In the first sub-study, the development of the participating teams' skills was examined. To this end, the coaches of the teams were asked about the development of the children's and young people's skills using a questionnaire (external assessment). As part of the second sub-study, former participants (alumni) were asked about their current professional situation and the influence of the WRO on their self-concept and interest in computer science and technology (as important indicators for their later study and career choices) using an online survey. The results of the study confirm the positive development that the children and young people experience through their participation in the competition.
