When your inner bastard once again refuses to rest ...

When your inner bastard once again refuses to rest ...

Whether you are an entrepreneur, a master electroplater or an apprentice, self-motivated people have a big advantage in life. If you learn how to overcome your inner bastard and put a leash on it, you can achieve more and get better and better.

What motivates me ...

"And it's really true, Sihdi, that you want to remain a giaur, an unbeliever who is more contemptible than a dog and more disgusting than a rat that only eats rotten food?" - "Yes."

This is the first sentence in my new paperback that was to have a major impact on my love of books. It was to be the beginning of a decade-long fondness for entertaining and exciting adventure novels. History and geography wrapped up in a charming story.

My fascination was awakened.

My curiosity was awakened.

I wanted to travel. To get to know other countries and cultures. To experience what makes others tick. How they live, what they eat, what they are like.

"Through the Desert" - my first book by Karl May - was given to me in 1978. At the age of 12 ... and I was blown away. My spirit of discovery was unstoppable.

And my curiosity has not waned to this day. This has also helped me to establish myself as an Austrian in Germany and to feel at home.

I love my job as a coach and mentor for up-and-coming managers. But every now and then, my inner bastard barks too loudly, too fiercely and incessantly.

If I then conjure up an image of my next travel destination - be it Cape Town, Normandy or Ireland - this visualization helps me to distance myself from negative feelings and the annoying barking.

So what is self-motivation?

Self-motivation is the desire to achieve the goals you have set yourself

And the energy and initiative you muster to achieve them. For some people, the desire to be motivated comes from within. However, it takes discipline to motivate yourself regularly.

(Bild: Pixabay)(Image: Pixabay)Whatever your goals are, there are a few tips that can help you to overcome your inner self and help you to achieve your goals.

1. reward yourself when you have achieved a goal:

This encourages a positive cycle of behavior and motivates you to prepare for the next milestone and celebrate further successes. Celebrating small successes regularly is legal doping for your happiness level.

2. break down a big problem or goal into smaller tasks:

If you manage to complete one task at a time - step-by-step - you will achieve your goal faster and more reliably. Sometimes it helps to be disciplined and spend just 5 minutes on an unloved task. This usually turns into more minutes or you take a short break and devote yourself to something else. For example, stocktaking. Then return to creating the rosters.

3. set yourself a schedule:

If you want to achieve your goal in a certain period of time, set yourself a realistic schedule. Use your schedule planner to do this. Enter achievable stages for your major goal and implement them.

4. visualize your goal:

Imagine how you feel, how feelings of happiness and relief arise when you have achieved your goal. Particularly creative people draw a picture of their goal or design a vision board so that they can actually visualize it.

5. exchange ideas with your success buddy:

Achieving a goal together is much more fun and motivating than you might expect. I myself really appreciate my success buddy. When my motivation is at rock bottom and I can no longer see the wood for the trees, it helps me immensely to chat to someone who knows my goals and can build me up and motivate me again. So that my inner radar is aligned with my goals again.

When you get over your inner bastard and motivate yourself, you will see how much easier it is to achieve positive things in life.

With the strategies above, you will set yourself on the path to success and achieve your goals much more easily.

PS: Forget about your inner bastard. It wants to stop you from overcoming difficulties and facing your fears. Leave it behind and concentrate on your goals and your motivation to actually achieve them.

I congratulate you now when you have reached your next self-imposed milestone. And throw confetti in your mind and pop the corks!
