On December 8, 2023, the Institute of Surface Technology (IOT), RWTH Aachen University, hosted the annual Aachen Surface Colloquium under the direction of Prof. Kirsten Bobzin. The lecture program consisted of nine interesting technical papers on the topics of PVD, thermal spraying and soldering technology. As in the previous year, new solutions from coating and materials technology were presented and discussed with numerous guests.
Parallel to the lecture program, the scientific staff of the institute presented their research projects in the form of a poster exhibition. This was followed by the annual general meeting of the Förderverein Institut Oberflächentechnik (IOT) e.V., in which Prof. Bobzin reported in particular on the latest figures and changes at the institute. A total of five new research projects were funded in 2023. Particularly noteworthy is the approval of the priority program SPP 2402 "Greybox models for the qualification of coated tools for high-performance machining" with two sub-projects of the IOT. In addition, seven new employees have been recruited so that a wide range of surface technology topics can continue to be researched intensively in Aachen in the future.
