Valued expert and appraiser

Jürgen Schmidt celebrated his 65th birthday on August 14, 2022. After completing his vocational training as a metallurgy technician at the VEB Mansfeld Kombinat "Wilhelm Pieck" and studying non-ferrous metallurgy at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, he supervised a wide range of R&D projects as a laboratory manager in the field of materials analysis and materials testing at the VEB Kombinat Carl Zeiss Jena and PTS Jena GmbH.

In the mid-1990s, for example, he was a project partner in a project funded by the German Space Agency (DARA) focusing on "Plasmocer treatment of titanium materials for space applications", in which Daimler Research (now Airbus) was also involved. The system manufactured by Jürgen Schmidt as part of this project was later also used at Daimler.

Since 1999, he has played a decisive role in setting up the electrochemistry department at Innovent e.V. in Jena and has made the institute known among experts for innovative processes such as plasma chemical oxidation and electroless nickel dispersion layers. With great enthusiasm, commitment and realism, he contributed to the development and industrial implementation of electrochemical processes for a wide range of applications in metal refinement. This is documented in a large number of publications and lectures, participation in DGO committees and, last but not least, in the high esteem in which he is held by partners, colleagues and friends. Congratulations and all the best for his official retirement.
