Young scientists honored

At the end of October 2020, eight young scientists received the Schaeffler FAG Foundation's Innovation Award 2019 for their pioneering work. The industry prize is one of the best endowed prizes in Germany and is awarded by the Schaeffler FAG Foundation for product and process innovations after assessment by a top-class jury. The prize was awarded in the categories "Doctorate" and "Bachelor's and Master's Theses".

The first prize for a doctorate in the amount of 6000 euros went to Dr.-Ing. Marian Skalecki, who developed a simulation model for the prediction of carbonitriding, a special type of case hardening of materials, in his thesis. His dissertation is based on two projects of the pre-competitive Industrial Collective Research (IGF), which is organized in the AiF network and supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics with public funds. Both projects were supervised by the AiF member Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wärmebehandlung und Werkstofftechnik e.V. (AWT). The systemic benefits from both projects are of particular benefit to medium-sized companies in the fields of furnace construction and measurement and control technology. The doctoral student has now taken up a promising position in a northern German furnace construction company and is thus a prime example of a successful "brain transfer".
