Whether in the office at a computer screen or working on machines - the new workplace standard DIN EN 12464-1 specifies lighting requirements for occupational visual tasks. It was published at the end of 2021 and proposes lighting solutions for most indoor workplaces and the associated surfaces.
Unlike its predecessor from 2011, the current version of the standard addresses the needs of users in addition to the minimum requirements and explains the non-visual effects of light.
However, the lighting level is only one criterion in lighting design. Luminance distribution, light direction, color rendering, light color and flicker of the light sources are also considered. When planning, the Ordinance for Workplaces (ArbStättV) and the Technical Rule for Workplaces "Lighting" (ASR A3.4) must also be observed.
The knowledge base www.licht.de explains all the criteria for good lighting in detail and provides work aids for lighting design.
