Kaltkathodensensoren unterliegen, physikalisch bedingt, im Druckbereich über 1x10-4 mbar einem erhöhten Verschleiß durch Eigensputtern. Indem die neue Generation der Smartline Vakuumtransmitter VSI (Kaltkathode) und VSM (Pirani/Kaltkathode) der Thyracont Vacuum Instruments GmbH die Hochspannung ihrer Kaltkathoden zu hohen Drücken hin gezielt reduziert, konnte die Lebensdauer dieser Sensoren deutlich gesteigert werden.
