CAMTEC GmbH celebrates 25 years of precision and heavy-duty power supply technology from the Black Forest

For a quarter of a century, the "CAMTEC" brand has stood for high-precision power supply units and laboratory power supplies up to the KW range, as well as other particularly robust power supply components and battery chargers "Made in Black Forrest" that are used worldwide. Whether tunnels, railroad signaling systems, power plants or refineries: the power supply components from Camtec Power Supplies GmbH in the Black Forest have been in use worldwide for 25 years wherever the demands on the power supply are particularly high.

The power range of the company based in Pfinztal near Karlsruhe extends from 10 watt Din-Rail devices to I- and U-programmable power supplies with up to 3 KW peak power. The portfolio is rounded off by infinitely scalable power modules for heavy-duty power requirements in even higher KW ranges, inrush current limiters, DIN rail DC charging rectifiers and completely wear-free solid state relays. The AC and DC input voltage ranges and variable frequencies between 47 and 63 Hz enable the 1-phase to 3-phase devices to be used worldwide.

All CAMTEC devices are developed and manufactured by 20 experienced employees exclusively in Pfinztal near Karlsruhe. A highly efficient and highly variable automated production facility has been set up there in order to be able to cope with the wide range of types and technical variants in mainly three-digit batch sizes. Sales are handled by 77 distribution partners in a total of 67 countries worldwide. Around 750,000 CAMTEC devices from the Black Forest are currently in use around the world. The average service life of the devices is 16 years.

CAMTEC was founded by Jürgen Walter and Oliver Walter under the name "CAMTEC Systemelektronik". 25 years later, CAMTEC products are used at neuralgic points of use in particularly critical applications - i.e. wherever a failure would lead to considerable costs or risks for the user. These include oil rigs, transportation systems, railroad infrastructure, building and factory automation, large-scale industrial and petrochemical plants, as well as production facilities in the automotive industry and its suppliers worldwide.

The decision to strategically focus exclusively on the development and manufacture of industrial switching power supplies was made 18 years ago. Camtec Systemelektronik became CAMTEC POWER SUPPLIES. Previously, customer-specific projects in the high-performance automotive sector, including power electronics for racing and the development of microelectronics and software, were an integral part of the company's engineering and production portfolio.

CAMTEC has always set itself high standards, both in terms of sustainability and production efficiency as well as in terms of quality, complete traceability of all parts and consistent implementation of the zero-defect - and correspondingly zero-failure - tolerance. The company provides availability and service guarantees of at least 10 years. Failure rates are below 0.003 percent. Oliver Walter has been running the family business since his father retired in 2008: "If nobody thinks about our components in their system for decades, we will have achieved our goal," he says, summing up the basic philosophy of his company.
