Chemist Dr. Reinhold Hoffmann celebrates his 75th birthday

Dipl.-Chem. Dr. rer. nat. Reinhold Hoffmann celebrated his 75th birthday in mid-January. After training as an electroplater and obtaining a certificate as a skilled worker, Reinhold Hoffmann attended evening classes at a grammar school, where he completed his A-levels and then began studying chemistry at the University of Dortmund. During his studies, Reinhold Hoffmann taught chemistry and physics at a grammar school in Dortmund. After graduating with a degree in chemistry, he remained at the University of Dortmund as a research assistant to write his dissertation. During this time, he was responsible for the training of chemistry and physics laboratory assistants and was a deputy member of the examination board for chemical laboratory assistants in the chemical industry. At the same time, he also worked as a lecturer for basic and master courses at the DGO in Solingen. From November 1977 until the end of 1995, Dr. Hoffmann was plant manager and member of the management board of a surface technology company that was involved in the production of functional coating systems.
His book "Chemie für die Galvanotechnik" was published by Leuze Verlag in 1988. Reinhold Hoffmann was also active as a lecturer in chemistry at the Märkische Fachhochschule in Iserlohn and as a chemistry consultant for the voluntary fire departments.
Since 1993, Dr. Hoffmann has been a publicly appointed and sworn expert for electroplating and surface technology in the fields of electroplating coatings and processes, mechanical surface treatment and damage to and assessment of electroplating systems.
In 1996, Reinhold Hoffmann founded the Institute for Environment and Safety (PIUS) as an expert organization for the testing of systems with water-polluting substances in accordance with the AwSV. Together with his co-author Dr. Unruh, Dr. Hoffmann wrote further books for Leuze Verlag: "Chemie für die Galvanotechnik und Oberflächentechnik" and the "Lexikon für die Galvanotechnik und Oberflächentechnik". Since 2013, Reinhold Hoffmann has been a guest lecturer at the TU Dortmund University, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Hoffmann has two grown-up children, his daughter has a doctorate in veterinary medicine and his son has a doctorate in surface technology engineering.
