Frank O. R. Fischer announces that as of July 31, 2020, he will no longer serve as Managing Director of the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) and as Managing Director of DGM-Inventum GmbH.
Frank Fischer will head the Research Institute for Inorganic Materials - Glass/Ceramics (FGK) as Managing Director from August 1, 2020.
The FGK, based in Höhr-Grenzhausen near Koblenz, was founded in 1986 by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Westerwald district and is a highly specialized laboratory and development service provider in the fields of process engineering, silicate and technical ceramics as well as materials and raw materials research. With over 45 employees in the three business areas of research & development, materials testing and consulting, the FGK is one of the largest non-university, non-profit research institutions in the field of glass and ceramics research. In addition, the FGK, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences and the University of Koblenz-Landau will establish a competence center for 3D printing of ceramics, funded with 5.3 million euros.
Frank Fischer is looking forward to this new, exciting task and to continuing to be closely associated with the field of materials science and engineering (MatWerk) and, of course, with the DGM's large network. During his time at the DFG and even more so at the DGM, many fruitful contacts and personal friendships have developed, which he can now deepen on a different level.
He would like to take this opportunity to thank all members and supporters of the DGM. His special thanks also go to the entire team at the DGM office and the many volunteer members of the DGM, who have worked with great commitment to advance the association and the field.
Dr. Stefan Klein will manage the business of the association and DGM-Inventum GmbH from 1 August 2020 until a new member of the DGM Executive Board is appointed.
