Precious metals in focus at fem

The fem Forschungsinstitut Edelmetalle + Metallchemie and the Schmucktechnologische Institut der Hochschule Pforzheim are organizing the Precious Metals Technology seminar at fem in Schwäbisch Gmünd on 26 September. It is aimed at experts from the precious metal processing industry and the goldsmith's trade. Participation is free of charge and registration is possible until August 31.

Expert speakers will offer practical insights into the technical and decorative applications of precious metals from 2 to 5:30 pm. The innovative industrial use and significance of precious metals in the luxury goods industry will also be highlighted. The program will begin with an introductory lecture by electroplating expert Torsten Holzhauer from Enayati Oberflächentechnik GmbH on selective electroplating of copper strips. The first part on silver alloys will also include a presentation on "Argentium. What the "i" changes" by Christine Zock from Argentium and an investigation into the tarnishing behavior of silver alloys presented by Prof. Dr. Carolo Burkhardt from Pforzheim University. The second part will focus on platinum alloys and additive manufacturing. Dr. Jörg Fischer-Bühner from Indutherm will talk about the production of platinum powder for additive manufacturing. Dr. Jochen Heinrich from C. Hafner will then focus on additive manufacturing and evaluate 7 years of laser metal fusion experience. Lisa-Yvonn Schmitt from fem will then talk about the fascinating possibilities of platinum-based metallic glasses. The conference will conclude with an overview of current research and development topics by fem department head Dr. Ulrich Klotz.
