1 Introduction?
The reduction of fuel consumption, a high efficiency and low emission values are the aimes of modern aircraft engine development. A possibility to achieve these aims is the application of modern materials in engine construction. That is the reason why MTU Aero Engines develops blades and vanes made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastics for the utilisation in low-pressure compressors of aircraft engines (Fig. 1).
